Random stuff I'm loving OR something to distract you from COVID craziness

I haven't written (for enjoyment and not, you know, to pay my bills) in awhile. I miss it and I'm rusty. Evidence of my more inspired days are here...just scroll on down. I thought I'd gather my old blogging go-to's: dope tunes, cheap wine, my "crazy art teacher" cozy sweater, and share some music and podcasts that are getting me through this partial society shutdown. Rough track from Last Contact

The man who married me and turned me into a metal head is a pretty talented mofo on the guitar. His band, Last Contact, is working on new songs as they look to replace their vocalist, who moved to Kansas City. I am loving the groovier direction of the stuff the guys are coming up with. I have to share this tune they just finished. It's rough, just drums and Mike's guitar. The mix came out quiet, so you'll have to turn it up: The straight-up rock groove and thrashy bridge seems like the perfect canvas for a cool vocal track. The singer could go with the melody, or do something kinda soaring--or completely different--over it. If I had any musical talent at all, I would have already bullied Mike, Josh, and Brett into letting me front the band. You can visit their ReverbNation page to hear more from Last Contact. Rockfest 2014/Liberty Memorial Park/Kansas City

Alternate title to this post: Yes, I attend concerts that don't involve Myles Kennedy. There were a lot of good things about Rockfest . The sound systems on both stages were really great. The main stage setup was very concert-goer-friendly. There were some amazing monitors on either side of the stage. A good distance away from the stage, there was another one of these monitors, and more speakers. The action on the second stage was broadcast on these main stage monitors between bands, so there was NO downtime in the main stage area. This was great because the band times overlapped each other, and it was nearly impossible to catch two bands playing back to back. We were not able to see every band at Rockfest, but these are my reviews of the ones we were able to catch: Heaven's Basement: Mike and I were introduced to Heaven's basement this past fall when they opened up for Halestorm here in Springfield.
